HELP - 2003 TD5 110 Utility D/Cab Pickup purchase?
1st ever Landy, so a total noob

Fancy a L/R and need a 110 at 6'3 (cos I can't fit into a 90) and found a nice Double Cab County spec Pickup, with 100k on it - from a local contact I know

1 previous owner (private) and I can find LR service history up to 48k and a few bits of warranty stuff from mid 2000's

Good nick, chassis looks ok - clean and tidy (side steps rotted through though, which I thought was strange) and body ok, apart from a couple of usual door handle knocks and some galvanic reaction on the rivets and one doorhandle

No oil underneath on diffs or engine bottom

Drives ok, bit of a shock driving one though - but after 15 mins I had a smile

Brakes seem not ultra powerful, clutch stiff - but I guess that's TD5 normal

So, what else to check

What should I be paying?

some of the usual suspects are
oil in ecu
leaking fpr (fuel)
warped manifold
diesel in oil, (injector o rings fail)

been a while since I've had a td5 so can't remember everything.
great motor though! My 109 thread

Is there any more leg room in the front of a 110 than a 90?

Best engine ever fitted to a Defender, as long as it's been looked after you should be ok.
Check if it's a std engine or tuned, see if the EGR valve is still in place, has the cat been removed, early Td5's had a problem with oil in the loom but an 03 should be fine, check the chassis and rear cross member for rot, shocks are not expensive, the clutches are notoriously stiff but can be sorted with a spring modification, as for the brakes, check the master cylinder is ok, mine had a small crack around the bolts holding it to the bulkhead, dead easy to replace though and made a massive difference to the braking power, check the door seals etc for any leaks, usual stuff which I'm sure you're aware of, if in doubt then pay for an independent L/R inspection or take a friendly forum member with you.
Can't think of anything else 'cos I've been on the plonk!
Best of luck

Well, I drove the TD5 all afternoon on the NYork Moors

It's slow, but gets up to 60mph eventually

The clutch was stiff and the steering at standstill heavy

Built like a tank, but the more you drove the bigger the smile, other Landy owners waved

The motor just purred, at tickover and made mo nasty noises or smoke when booted

Had it on the ramps and the chassis was amazing totally solid, original black factory paint and never waxoiled, all straight and no oil stains on the diffs/boxes or sump

Aircon was nice, as were the heated seats and because it was a sealed double cab, the soundproofing was ace - for a Landy and I could actually hear the radio

I think I may like it Laughing

Only fault I could find, was a mere smidge of oil on the outside of the ecu loom clip, under drivers seat (need a cleanout and new loom)

You really need to put some pics up.

Hard to value a 12 year old Defender without Thumbs Up

Looks good.
The side steps do suffer after some time so I wouldn't be too concerned about them.
You've said the chassis is spot on and engine is sounding sweet so all's good.
Would be nice if you could knock the price down for the replacement side steps.

What's not to like Very Happy
