Amazing fire tender .
This amazing machine is brand new and yet to be delivered to its new owners at Oban Airport . As you can see from the No.plate ( 63 ) the build started almost 3 yrs ago and there is still no miles on the clock . Built here in Ayrshire the tender still has electrical issues and I know that the owners are getting somewhat impatient .

A big old bus indeed, I'd have it in a heartbeat if it was too much trouble for them to fix Whistle There is a lot of engineering going on there, but surely is doesn't take that length of time to get the thing fit for service?? Looks 6x4, is that pretty standard for this type of truck? Obviously a full 6x6 would have better off road ability, but possibly not needed at Oban? As far as I remember the tenders at Barra were 6x6, they also had a couple of 110 SW too, but with all things that end up in the islands the life span is cut dramatically short. I remember one of the 110s being only a few years old and the bulkhead had rotted right through near the top door hinge.

I spotted the same one last November while in Oban, parked by the train station. Its a RC chassis. 1999 Defender TD5 110

When I see conversions and/or specials like that, I cannot help but wonder why the builder didn't start with a more suitable platform in the first place.

For a vehicle of that size, there are many more suitable starting points than the trusty Defender. If its plated GVW is over 3.5 tonnes, just about everything will be overstressed. If not, then it can only have a very marginal payload. Its off-raod ability is probably limited to the grass alongside a runway.

That being said, it is pretty cool!
