Electrical failure
Gents

Just had the instrument binnacle off to replace a couple of failed lamps in the instruments.

Consequently I seems to have had a big electrical failure- I have no ignition lamps, no headlamps (sidelights OK), no main beam (though Headlamps do flash) no heated seats, no heated screens, no electric windows. I have checked fuses both np beneath dash and under drivers seat which all seem in order.

Any ideas ? BTW it's a TD5 90.

Cheers
Gavin

Have you checked the plug was fully secured when you re-fitted?

Did you electrically disconnect the binnacle? If so did you refit the plug firmly and securely?

Just saying its a possibility it's loose, or become loose.

Does a TD5 have a megafuse? If not Steve's suggestion sounds favourite, maybe you've inadvertantly disconnected something whilst tinkering. Did you disconnect the battery whilst you were doing it?
Whip the binnacle off and have a route round would be my first avenue. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Thanks guys - yes I'll double check back of binnacle. Just noticed I don't have any instruments either !

I didn't electrically disconnect binnacle but something must be loose or disconnected behind there.

Well what do you know. I removed binnacle, checked all connections to it and behind it, checked ignition barrel connections and all seemed OK.

Was going to give up when I decided to do a systematic check of all fuses irrespective of what they were for and eventually found fuse 3 (5A) had blown. The icon in the fuse cover up is an index finger pointing at a book, I had no clue what that was. I changed it and all was well with the world.

On looking in the manual it is for battery/diagnostics !

Thumbs Up

Glad you're sorted. If messing with the binnacle 'best code of practice' would be to disconnect the battery in future perhaps?
