Acceptable play in Salisbury rear?
I have a bit of a clunk in my driveline. I replaced my rear a-arm ball joint a year ago. I checked the play in the diff by blocking the wheels and putting the trans in neutral and twisting the propshaft. I got about 10-15 degrees of slack in the propshaft. I haven't looked at the drive flanges yet but I could hear the slop being taken up in the differential. What's the amoun of acceptable slack in a diff?

For me I'd say less than a 1/4 of a turn. My Sal rocks about 8 to 10mm. My old P38 rocked 1/4 turn and made the drive line bang and clunk badly. To the point it was impossible to change gears with a bang.

Perhaps check gear box rubbers, I had one replaced after a noisy drive line complaint to LR. That was back in the P38 days. My Defender and travels

Just checked em. I get maybe 5-10 degrees of wheel motion but less than 5 degrees of that is between the half shafts and the drive flanges.

I'm not sure how much play is acceptable for the drive flanges.
