Dead just stone cold dead
how are we all??

issues with the 07 2.4 puma

can any one advise or help with the following.

had my truck in the yard unlocked jumped into it to drive of turned the key and nothing totally dead

no ignition lights on the dash
no starter click
no radio
no interior lights
dash clock was stopped
wouldnt respond to the key fob to lock or un lock

everything electrical was totally dead

checked the battery got a reading of 12.4 volts. side note can batteries be fautly give volts but not amps?

I removed the earth clamp no usual small spark or crack as you remove the clamp, touched the earth clamp onto the battery terminal few times then all of sudden interior lights came on radio clicked on, put the clamp back on and tightened up

turned the ignition lights came on I let the glow plugs heat up turned key to start it and it fired up with out missing beat.

have since started and stopped it few times seams fine but get the feeling some thing isn't

iv been round my earth straps battery-chasi-transferbox there also another n the other side of the transferbox that has two connectors that looks like it goes into a loom that heads out the back.

is this just an intermittent fault with the battery? does look like the original battery iv never changed it.

or something more to it.

any help would be much appreciated

Have you checked for corrosion on the inside of the battey clamp were it makes contact with th battery post?

I have had this happen on one of my LRs, just cleaned up the clamp and the post and all Ok. 2002 110 TD5 White

Sure megafuse only does starter lead , all other feeds are from fuse box under seat which is feed separately from positive terminal , so you should have had all normal stuff working just no starter

really can only see battery terminal or main earth lead from battery to transfer box giving that problem

very usefull info thanks guys

I had visual inspection of the mega fuse on the pos lead not stripped it out. doesn't look corroded and all connections seam tight. I will strip it out totally and double check

I went round the earth straps all seam in tact I took them all apart emery papered the ends and emery papered the chasi where it bolts to, all seamed ok apart from being filthy and covered in thin layer of dust/mud/soil

I cant think of anything that would completely cut of everything apart from at the source-battery.

needs further tea drinking and muttering with wd40 in hand lol

Are all electric's standard ?
isolater fitted ?

seen batterys that have a broken link interally that can give volt reading but no amps as the load breaks the link , but never seen one thats ok again and will start the car

yeah its all standard, only extra electrics are new bumper with DRLs fitted by IRB developments so should be proper job, looked it when it was it was being fitted.

no isolator

iv had batteries do odd things on the farm one minute there fine next there totally nackered. agree seams un likely an internal fault would allow it to start again.

indeed its got me a little perplexed but no doubt its something simple, just trying to go though the basics first before getting to technical,

I will try stripping the mega fuse out maybe change the battery iv got a spare and check all the connections see how she fares!

if I have a break through I will let you know here!

Dave

My gut thinks it's likely something like an oxide layer build up on battery post, which insulates rather than conducts. One cause can be batteries with a slight weep around the posts and battery acid creates a dark coating on the post. Weeps around the posts can be sealed with a something like a light rust proofing compound (around the base of the post only) that dries out.

Good check might be to test for voltage drops between each terminal and post. Probably would have been more useful initially before your did your other checks. You may well have already fixed that up, but something to think of if it plays up again.

Cheers
Mogboy

hi Mogboy

ah cool thank you, I will go all round the battery terminals with some emery paper and be sure there 100% clean then once I have refitted I will smear with vaselene to keep any corrosion at bay

thanks for your help muchly appreciated Thumbs Up

Try Jump Start.

If it works, it's the battery.
If not, waste your time on further investigations.
