Sawtooth wheel confusion
Hello all,

Expecting my first Defender at the end of next month and as you'll know, there are no Sawtooth wheels available for factory order. As I like the look and plan to retro fit a set of Sawtooths on day 1, swop the tyres and sell the 5 Boost alloys before they see any mileage.

There are plenty of replica and 'genuine' sawtooth wheels out there. Having spoken to some well known suppliers I've been told many strange things. For example:

- Some authorised LR dealers buying pattern wheels to complete Black Pack orders that the factory cannot fulfill (wonder if the customer knows or still paying LR prices?)
- that they're the same part? Unlikely, however is there a way to tell.
- official LR dealers that are offering 'genuine sets' have been ordering truck loads of aftermarket Sawtooth wheels - any crossover there I wonder?

I guess what's important is

- Are the £500 sets lesser quality than the genuine £1000 sets?
- Are they indeed the same thing?
- For mainly road use, does it matter?

Cheers for any advice or feedback

Not really an answer but you would imagine the LR rims will have LR part No's on the back.
I have an aftermarket set and the don't have any part No's on them.....
They do have a higher load rating than the genuine rim and I am pleased with them.

I'd go for aftermarket anyway, they have a slightly better ET20 (offset) rather than 33, so they will be slightly further out, closer to the wheel arch. I think the only person who'll be able to tell the difference when fitted is you.

I would only go for genuine LR Sawtooths..

I know from experience that if you have any warranty issues the dealer / LR will squirm if you have non gen rims/ tyres.

Do the genuine ones fitted by the dealer get covered by the full 3 year warranty?

Yes the wheels are covered by the 3 year warranty.

If you go in for a suspension problem ( as an example) with non gen rims they may squirm a little.

I changed my Tyres to 265s and LR did al they could not to repair a propshaft problem,

I'd be going genuine.
However, if I was going aftermarket, & the 18" items were made by the same people that made the aftermarket 16" item, then I'd go for the 18" which suits the Defender very well, of course with a lower profile tyre.
