Bonnet security - anti-theft measures for Pumas

In my topic:

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic35366.html

I asked whether the Bonnet Lock product for pre-Puma Defenders was applicable to Pumas. Seems not, as you will see from the update I added to the topic.

So, can LR Technical advise on the best way to secure the theft-prone Puma bonnet. Is there a product made for overseas markets or special customers which could be made available? Is a cycle-cable-lock between the under-bonnet bracing and the engine lift eye recommended? Are the "security hinges" available commercially the best solution?

Thanks for your assistance with this enquiry. Trevor Wright

Security hinges and a cable lock is I think the only option available, unless someone know different. I use a Kryptonite cable lock, yes it can be cut with bolt cutters, but at least it would perhaps deter or at the very least slow a thief down. Also make sure you have an alarm switch fitted under the bonnet so that if it is lifted the alarm goes off. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

A determined thief will always be able to steal a bonnet. All you can do is take measures to hopefully deter them/slow them down.

We suggest bonnet security hinges such as these as stage 1 protection which is obvious. Hopefully lowlife will just move on to an easier target. Typical theft involves smashing drivers window, opening bonnet, ignore alarm and scarp quickly

A cable lock is hidden but is stage 2 protection and is not obvious.

Both can be overcome but it takes time and time is what thieves do not like spending.

Thanks for the comments to date.

I look forward to a considered reply from Land Rover Technical on their solution to this issue. Trevor Wright

I confidently predict that their response will be that there is no issue.

For every bonnet nicked its another five or six hundred pounds in the Bank for JLR for a new replacement one. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
