Any deals on cooper st max ?
Hi all , I'm imminently going to order up 5off 265/75/16 cooper ST max tyres,
Fitting is no issue as I have a friendly mobile tyre fitter Thumbs Up
Best I can find is John craddock at £138 each incl vat and free delivery


Anyone aware of a better deal please ?

I have been following these tyres very closely for several months now because as soon as my new wheels are available I am also going to be buying a set of five in the same size.

Tyreleader always seem to come in the cheapest, their prices do fluctuate by a few £ so it is worth monitoring then for a week or so but otherwise they always seem to be the best value. I have done plenty of searches and everyone seems to be happy with their service.
Camskill is normally a good bet but they don't list this tyre.

When you order make sure you are getting what you want. One on-line dealer (who doesn't list prices) quoted me for the STT by mistake, I queried it twice as the price seemed too cheap and finally he admitted he had been looking at the STT instead of the ST MAXX. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

After ringing around,MIT appears no ones got any Neutral

The container rid due in 19th March,

So that gives me time to get um fitted up and the current BFG MUDs on modulates sold at "Sodburys" in April Thumbs Up

I just had these fitted, albeit 235/85 by my local mobile tyre guy for £130 each fitted if that's any help.

Mytyres.co.uk only list the 235/85 also.

I'm really impressed with them, not usually one for looks, but they do look great on the Landy!

I bought them based on the reviews, especially from Australia etc. who rave about them!

3 issues: one had a manufacturing defect in the sidewall (soft spot), they were all a pig to balance (so I'm trying out some balancing beads which should arrive in the post tomorrow) and they are noisier than I was expecting after reading the reviews.

Luckily my tyre guy managed to find a replacement for the defective one in the midlands somewhere and is having it sent down, otherwise they are on back order everywhere (which is worrying)! Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

Hi Cupboard!

When I say impressed I mean looks, road handling (wet and dry) and from what I've seen so far good in the gloopy stuff - although I haven't taken them in REALLY deep mud yet.

Noise wise the vehicle was previously fitted with Grabber TRs (its my latest landy) which were silent as they are a road biased tyre. My previous 90 was fitted with BFG ATs which were almost silent. My mates landy is fitted with Cooper STTs (the next step up from these) and to be honest I can't see much difference in the noise although I will say I obviously don't drive his vehicle every day.

I guess for paying the extra, quite a lot extra, over the STT I'd have expected them to be a bit quieter. I just hope I can justify the extra spent on better road holding over the STT and that they balance withe beads! Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

Aren't our trucks suppose to run 235/85/R16s? I mean sure the 265/75/R16s were an option before but I was told you would either need spacers or need to adjust the steering stops or something?

Also, will the difference in size affect the fuel consumption and engine power?

265/75 will fit on a Defender with no modifications, although as you say you may need to adjust the steering stops to stop the tyres fouling the radius arms. You DO NOT need spacers, although you may loose some of your steering lock.

I used to run my 90 on 267/75, no spacers, lock stops adjusted properly.

I now run my 110 on 235/85 WITH spacers, and I would say my turning circle is the same as my old 90. Quite impressive for a 110! Also the 235/85 with spacers fills the arches just nicely - only downside being that they fling a lot of muck up the side of the vehicle. Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

Got mine from Craddocks, for our Australia trip, particularly due to the good reviews for Australian tracks and that they were designed in Australia for said purpose!

Met loads of people in Oz who love 'em and so do I!

When new not found they were any noisier than my previous Pirelli ATRs ( which were a road biased tyre). Balanced no problem (265/75 supplied on modular rims so balanced before delivery by Craddocks). Both this size and the 235s "appear" to be in stock at Craddocks, but not sure if their online shop gives real-time stock or not, can't recall from past orders.

Noisier now that they have been scrubbed a fair bit - 15K miles on a combo of tarmac, gravel (with corrugations) and stony dry riverbeds and sand. They have a tendency to feather a bit so people in the know recommend rotating them. No side wall damage, no punctures, just a few notches out of some of the blocks here and there, but understandable for the terrain we went across.

Not got into any particularly sticky situations but they handled everything we threw at them in Oz and seem fine back home on the road here in wet and snow, etc.

Thanks for the feedback ozzie1989.

Do I understand it correctly that 265/75 with adjusted steering stops actually improves the turn radius? Does the size affect fuel consumption and engine power output (do you have to work the engine harder)?

Compared to 235/85 the 265/75 will REDUCE your turning circle as the tyre is wider and as such you may need to adjust your steering stops to stop the tyre rubbing on the radius arm.

Even if you have a standard vehicle with 235/85 you should check the stops as I find they aren't always well adjusted from the factory to give you the best turning circle.

As I said, I used to have 265/75 on my 90 and I coped with the turning circle, on the 110 it was abysmal!

Can't say I noticed any difference in fuel consumption/wear between the two.

Off road I found that 235's were marginally better as they bit through the mud rather than sitting on top.

On road I would say that the 265's would offer you marginally more grip based on the principle that there is more rubber in contact with the road. Also I found the 265's slightly better in the snow (aired down they would ride on top of the snow with a nice big footprint).
