I think I might go for an even "angrier" look and fit bigger ones, ones that are about 9" top to bottom. That would be super-cool!

You'd think so, but I can't find anything in the manual that would directly make this a fail. You fail if you obscure the sidelights but there's no reference of that reason on headlights; indeed it's legal to mask headlights to pass if they are LHD versions.
