Accelerate Curing Sikaflex
Hi Guys,

Anybody got any tips on how to accelerate curing sikaflex?

I have just fitted some utility pannel blanks (pop rivits on the ends and sikaflex everywhere else) to my 110 and the sika seems to be taking forever to go off.

Annoyingly with the existing sides not being exactly straight it keeps popping away from the sika.

Now, I have used some suckers on the inside to pull it up against the glue but the glue seems to be taking forever to go off (since yesterday morning!!).

I used Sikaflex EBT+

I need it for work tomorrow (yes I know bad planning on my part Embarassed) Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

silkaflex ebt would not have been my choice to by honest can take a few days to cure proper right though

really tigerseal or silkaflex 221/252 more of a automotive/marine adhesive would have been better and cured in couple of hours

silkaflex ebt is more household sealer really

Have given it a go but it started to sweat so stopped as I didn't want to get the joint wet.

Munch90: I fear the same Sad

I had previously used 221 to great effect for gluing some Aluminum panels at University so went back to screwfix picked up a tube and used it only now to find I have bought the wrong one Big Cry

Lesson Learnt- Always check the forum first before doing anything at all!

It seems to be going off ok, just very slowly and 110 rears are a very difficult shape to clamp up. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

291i is what you should have used. No help I know but the higher the humidity the longer the drying time. Try to get it indoors somewhere, even a multistorey and it may go off. Alternatively you may have to bite the bullet strip it off (white spirits) and redo with ' i technology' suff.

This is going to sound a bit odd but earlier I went outside and breathed on it (as if you were to breath on a mirror or similar) and do you know it seems to have kicked it off rather well!

Just gone and given it a gentle prod and a poke and it seems to be more turgid than it was earlier today.

Just hope it cures well enough before tomorrow morning Confused

K9F: Yes in future that will be the stuff to use. I can't believe my stupidity I am usually so careful to check everything before I start - I just picked it up and saw it was sikaflex didn't occur to me that I had the wrong type.

Then again was a bit of a rush to get it done before the frost and then the rain.

Still, its in undercoat and doesn't look too bad so hopefully will be able to get it top coated this week and then happy days! Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197
