Which relay is this one?
This is for a 50th Anniversary Defender.

Driving along today i could hear a clicking sound coming from in front of the transmission tunnel. I removed the cover and could feel this relay clicking away somewhat randomly.

What does this relay do?

Ok i believe it is C1212 which is relay condenser fan - which i am guessing is for the a/c?

Which was switched off... so why would it be flicking on and off? The Rules:-

Actually i should have been trying to identify the relay next to it the Blower Relay - which is flicking on and off when the engine is under load.

Any ideas? The Rules:-

Could surmise all day what may be wrong....

Was the blower selected on or off?

If it was off it will most likely be a short circuit.

If it was on it could be corrosion somewhere causing a high resistance that causes the relay to drop in and out.

It could be just that the relay is tired and has become lazy? Do you have another relay in the vehicle with the same part number you could transpose to see if the fault migrates to another system or is cured on the blower circuit?

You could have a suspect earth fault.

Is there any evidence of water ingress in the area where the relays are fitted?

Are any of the terminals on the relay itself showing signs of heat, corrosion or wear? If possible look at the corresponding terminals on the relay base for the same signs. Does the relay sit tight?

Ultimately find yourself an individual with the acumen to use a multimeter and ask them to do some voltage/resistance checks on your behalf would be my advice. But what would I know? I am an electrician (electrical engineer) not a magician which I think you may be better off with looking at the scant symptoms/details supplied! Good luck in your quest.

Ok.. so it would seem some wiring had moved and got burnt on the manifold. 4 wires for the a/c were then shorting out. This was causing amongst other things for the radio to pick up epic amounts of interference and the blower relay to keep flicking back and forth.

It also has broken the a/c pressure switch. The rub of that is that the part number and item have changed ever so slightly since manufacture. This means you not only have to buy the switch but also the dryer it is attached to due the thread being different.

No one it would seem provides an alternate to the Land Rover parts.... The Rules:-
