Replacing Lower Door Frame
Hi all,

My 1989 90 is showing the usual rust issues at the bottom of the door frame on both front doors. I wanted to get the bottom section of each door replaced but having never done this, do i need to take the doors off and remove the skin or can it be done successfully with the doors left on and door skin not being removed?

Thanks in advance!

Rich.

I did mine with the doors on, it might make it a bit more awkward for welding, but my excuse was, I didnt want the hassle of re-hanging the door on my own, and I was working outside with no cover.....
I'm pretty sure there are some pictures I took that are in my Gallery. 1999 Defender TD5 110

When mine were done we took the doors off as it is simpler for welding. You only need to peel the edges of the skin along the bottom and as high as you are going up, carefully.

Make sure you get the defender replacements, a lot on EBay are series sections which is different. YRM do good quality parts with plenty to go up the sides 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

Thanks for the advice. Very Happy I'll probably have it replaced in situ with the doors on, just carefully peeling back the door skin.

I'll check out the YRM offerings too! Very Happy Cool Then a spot of wayoyling to hopefully stop the rust for a bit longer. Smile
