Yesterday the Devon and Cornwall 4x4 response team went on a "training day" with Land Rover Experience. This consisted of an escorted tour across some private land and common land to which vehicle access is restricted - so it was definitely one of those days where you feel that you are driving where others can't go!!
We met up at Budleigh Salterton and headed off through a pig farm and up onto the cliffs Views along the cliff top were stunning! Land Rover supplied a lead and a tail vehicle - both Disco4's, and provided a handheld radio to each convoy vehicle so that they could provide instruction and interesting points to note! Heading inland and into some woodland we even managed to find some (stinky) water! With this being private land most of the track were well maintained - but had seen little traffic - so going down some of the steep slopes on a grassy track was interesting! Click image to enlarge With LRE in their nice shiney Disco4's the route taken was non-damageing. Some of the lanes were a little overgrown - but only with soft vegitation, so no worries - There was also a private Disco3 and a Range Rover Sport in the convoy (Supporting a disco3.co.uk sticker I might add!) Here we are lined up for the river crossing and then time for lunch - and the opertunity to go back through the water if you wanted to! (Jimbo81's pic from disco3.co.uk) After lunch up onto the MOD firing range - again private land which we had permission to access (and the key for the barriers!) Nobody attempted the "alternative route" After stopping to survey the final track Unfortunately the LRE Disco4 had a "temporary loss of forward momentum" Click image to enlarge Luckily a Defender was ready to "assist" before the brave amugst us all had a go - My 90 plodding straight through! So that was it - a very enjoyable day, and great to go with an organised trip with LRE who have access to some lanes and land that are not public rights of way So Thanks must goto the guys at LRE Honiton for providing the "training" for us - Their "adventure days" make a great day out!! Harry's hole (nobody took the alternative route) is interesting isn't it We did that trip last year - it is excellent That LRE Disco 4 seems to lose forward momentum a lot - have a look in my Exmoor gallery Was paul driving it ? Great pictures. Bob |
