Disco 2 v8 1999
I am sorry if i should not post this on here but my brother is thinking of buying a disco 2 v8.
Has anybody had one of these?
Anything he should be looking out for?
I had a read and they seem problems with the heads?
Anything else?

Thank you

Fabio

I had a 1998 'R' registered 3.9 V8. Bulletproff engine based on a late 1950s Buick. I LPG'd it (single point) and it was very affordable to drive. NOT good in floods or extreme wet as the distributor can get wet. The bodywork/brake pipes and especially the fuel pipes are worth going over. The fuel pipes are rigid and bolted onto the chassis and when they rot out it can be a bodyshell raise job to replace. I cut the old ones out and used later neoprene TD5 ones cable tied to the chassis to get round this but costly nevertheless. Get a good one and it will be a dream to drive (I miss the VCool, get a lemon and they can be a money pit. Get it inspected first.

Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

I had one some years ago, nice motor but they are getting on a bit now. Check alpine windows for leaks and rear floor for rot ....in fact check the whole of the bodyshell for rust [lift mats and check footwells, check inner wings, cills etc]. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.

Rot weakness on D2 isn't the body (that was the original Disco) - it's the rear chassis. They rot like nobody's business from in front of the back axle to crossmember and can be very expensive.

Thanks for the comments Gents.
It is 4.0 v8
The car is in Portugal, the rust is not a big problem.
It is more the rest...
I look at my defender and compare it with a 15 year old one in Portugal and there isn't much difference...
I take it the biggest problem is the engine?
It has 150k...
Anything else?
It is he's 1st land rover and i don't want him to get in trouble with he's wife"the boss"... Very Happy

Thank you

Fabio
