Please diagnose! Is my clutch dying?
I need some help from other "clutch victims" or those in the know...

Recently, when after partial load, I've begun to hear what sounds like heavy diesel nailing, worst around 1700rpm. It doesn't happen when in neutral at any engine speed and disappears when the engine is under heavier load. It seems to be at the same frequency as the normal nailing but it's louder and more "mechanical"
.
I thought it might be the injectors but the indie isn't so sure. When idling in neutral, he noticed some very light clanking with the clutch engaged vs. not.

I've tried the "stopping in neutral with the clutch in/out" trick but it just clanks in both cases. My clutches in other cars have just worn out in the past so I'm none the wiser.

Is it possible that the clutch springs are on the way out with these symptoms?

Help please?

Cheers

Is it always a problem at 1700 or is it intermittent?

Have you noticed another symptoms?

It's always worst around there, especially if I "rest" my foot on the pedal (not quite coasting) so there's just a little load. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

When you say pedal I presume you are talking clutch pedal?

If you mean throttle and talking about the same problem as me -then bloody good luck to you!!!!!

Thud

......oh dear.

Any of this sound familiar;
Very light throttle, just enough to go from coasting to fueling the engine at say 60mph sounds like injector knocking,
Turning engine off gives a very abrupt stop (but not always - depressing clutch when turning seems to improve things),
Gentle acceleration can be a kangaroo(ish),
Circa 1700 rpm can be like a step from running well to not well (or vice versa - can't recall which way round)
Transmission seems rubbish and getting smooth gear changes very difficult - again intermittent

These are my symptoms and I believe it's all down to an intermittent electrical problem.

Some of it sounds familiar, although acceleration and gear changes are okay.

I'm 50% for injector/fuel problems and 50% for clutch springs at the moment. I guess it's one or the other. Indie seemed convinced I hadn't melted the pistons or anything more serious (new turbo gets things a bit hot...). Whatever it is, I guess it'll get sorted eventually - just need to find a third job now Rolling Eyes

Perhaps if I figure mine out it might help you Smile

Cheers

Good luck mate.

In terms of gear changes I went from thinking it was engine related to clutch and now back to engine.
