Don't mind me asking, it seems that what you are doing is remove the bush, which prevents metal to metal contact. So you are making use of that 1cm or so allowance. Does it rattle? Also there is no modification to the mechanism at all in this case.

You may find that on an SW or USW you don't have the spacer thingies fitted in the first place - I think that they're fitted on the DC only, because of the limited clearance between the seat and the back panel of the cab.

Theres no modification to the mechanism at all, just removal of bushes. No rattling issues.

Got a Double Cab Pick Up, I'm planning to do something on the 2nd Row seats, before my children totally hate me for bringing them into the Defender.

As it turns out, You just need to remove 4 bushings installed in the hinges to recline the seats further. But you'll need to first remove the seat covers and cushion foam to have access to the hinge assembly. Once hinge plate removed, the bushing can be easily slided off.

My middle row seats now reclines further (though not significantly more) but the difference is huge in terms of comfort!

Solution to recline DCPU 2nd row?

I have removed all head cushions on the 2nd row, it is now appear to be more space for the seat to recline backward. However, I'm still wondering what did Derek mean by removing the bushing, plate etc.

Can somebody help...?

Where the pivot point is, where the seat backs fold forward. If you remove the trim from this area and move the seat back up and down you will see that the back rest 'rests' against bush type things in the hinge. If you remove the bush type things the seat back will recline further. I would suggest that you remove the seats from the vehicle.

I don't know how tall your kids are but removing the headrest isn't a long term solution.
You might want to have a look at the Exmoor rear seats if you want more space.
I'm now in the process letting a shop design a larger seat base to mount two original front seats on it with the right angle. If everything goes to plan I'll end up with more storage space, more legroom and a far more comfortable place to stay for my passengers in the back.

Thanks Adnrews! By 'Trim' did you mean the black cover behind the seats?

I have to admit I found this by Google.

Does anyone have a pic of the bushing referred to here?

I have a double cab seat with all the trim off. I think I can see the Bush to be removed but no idea how to do it.
