No problem (for once!). Smile On the top of the steering damper, I gripped the flat with vise-grips and loosened the nuts. There's two nuts - the top one is to lock the other. The bottom mount is simply a shouldered bolt and nut. Push the steel liner out of the rubber bush and remove the old one. I lubricated the new bush with rubber grease and fitted it, then pushed the steel liner through. For the top bushes, take note of how the washers come off, as they need reassembled correctly. The lips on the washers face each other inside the hole that the threaded shaft goes through.

The ball joints were quite straightforward too. Remove the split-pin from the castle nut and remove the nut. On one side, I had to grip the shaft of the ball joint with the vise-grips as it was turning with the nut. The other came off easily. The shouldered bolt through the bushes was VERY tight, and needed an extension on the breaker bar (and some heat) to move. Give everything a good clean and fit the new ones and fit new split pins. Job done.

Hope that helps.

Jon.

What did you replace your bushes with? Standard or poly?
I've already done my shockers all around but got the steering damper to go.
Got a lot to do at the moment so it's not a priority but I will do it sometime.
I've got a new damper to so should be just a swap, trouble is I've got a steering guard so that'll take extra time.

I replaced them with poly bushes. As for the damper, I've got a steering guard too. It's slightly more awkward, but still quite accessible.

Was it actual Polybushes by zany chance?
On mine the two bushes on the threaded end are a bit larger than the original rubber bushes, were yours the same?

Oh no sorry, the steering damper ones were just standard. Yes the top bushes are quite a bit thicker, but they compress.

The push fit end is fine and in the last photo as you can see is fitted already is just the threaded end bushes seem a bit larger.
I expect they are probably meant to be though I'd have though and as you say do get compressed.
These bushes are really good though from the drive quality on the shocks, very impressed.

Yes, mine were similar, but they do compress when tightened.

Ahead of our wedding anniversary on Monday, I made a secret shop while SWMBO is at work today to get the ingredients for a Nor'n Ireland pasty supper.

You cannot get these anywhere here, so I have been finding a recipe this week. It is the one thing SWMBO misses more than anything, so I thought I would give it a try.

Now made them, just hope they get the Thumbs Up after her shift tonight. 1970 Series 2A 88"

As far as pastie suppers are concerned, I'd class myself as a bit of a connoisseur. If you want to post me a few, I'll be more than happy to give my considered opinion. Smile

Just in from swapping over the rear o/s door harness Very Happy rear door locking now works again.

Thumbs Up

Unfortunately while removing door card very carefully the fir tree fixing top left broke away from the door card (base and all).....

Upon inspection it's not the first time ifs been glued back together.......i can only assume it was while the rear by LR was under taken 6 months ago....proper repair this time (replacement not a bit of solder)....

Just waiting for glue to dry before it goes back on.
