Not sure about driving on the beach but here is a link to the NT http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/formby/opening-times/ which might be able to help.
Being school holidays it could be busy depending what time you go.

As for shell suits... 'Calm down' 1999 Defender TD5 110

Learnt to drive on the beach between Ainsdale and Southport 30+ years ago just up the coast from Formby where we lived at the time. You can't drive on the beach at Fprmby I'm sure.

People were always getting stuck if they went out towards the sea too far.

Were chased by the shore patrol land rover several times for driving to fast Laughing

thanks very much. that's where we stopped the day at the NT site. weather turned out better than expected.

was impressed to see c10 wind turbines extending out from the coast and then in the distance I noticed a shed load more of then......30 - 50 perhaps? wow.

anyhow would love to say the def drove brillianty all the way there and back.....

the weather was great, sand dunes were great for getting out of the wind and grabbing a quiet bite to eat, children loved body boarding and the best bit for me was getting the boad out (thanks Brendan) for a bbq before heading home on my birthday Thumbs Up
