Hardshell roof tents
I am thinking of purchasing a James Baroud hard shell roof tent, however my experience in the past has been with Maggiolina tents. I need some back ground help, has anyone had experience using these tents, good or bad e.g, in bad weather conditions, heavy side winds, conisation build-up etc. Your feedback would be most appreciated. Confused

Hello,

Some information here http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/thre...f-top-tent

I love my Maggiolina, would be interested in your thoughts if you end up with a James Baroud after using Maggiolinas.

Thank you Steve for the very useful information/link, looks like others have gone down the same path as me. I will keep you informed of my progress. I had to carry out a number of mods/improvements to my Maggiolina to stop water ingress and hope the James Baroud tents don't have the same issues.

I went with my Maggiolina for a vacantion in green Ireland. Never seen it raining like that before.
But also never noticed a problem of water coming in. Have to say that it was fitted on a full supporting roofrack.

My modifications to the Maggiolina were around the door area, after experiencing soaking bedding etc around the door, which was facing the heavy rain and strong winds.

i have a maggi and looked in detail at the JB ones when D44 started stocking them. i liked the rear door entry option and fan!

in the end i chose to stay with Maggi:

its proven material
its not let me down
better clips for securing top
everyone know them so worth more come the end
support i would image was better but have no experience of Cheers

i have a maggi too - for all the same reasons as JST.

Mine (probably all) have a small drain plug in the base. my only criticism is the hopeless plastic strap/ties they fitted to the airtop, not the easiest to operate in the extreme cold. I removed them and replaced with a stainless steel alternative works a treat.

That was one area I was concerned about with the Maggiolina.
