Being Unfaithful?
We currently own Puma 90 and that’s not going anywhere, but we need to buy a large vehicle (ideally a 4x4) that can carry 4 adults, 2 huge dogs (14 stone & 10 stone Dog ) plus luggage in comfort. A 110 is too high for the elderly parents to get in/out, plus trips to Scotland might leave us with permanent ear damage.

We had owned 2 Disco 3’s but were seriously burnt with both of them, with an average repair bill of £400 per month Big Cry , Disco 4’s all over £20k with reasonable mileage. Range Rover boot is too small when rear seats in use.

Please don’t shoot, but seriously considering Toyota Amazon or Nissan Patrol and perhaps a Volkswagen Caravelle, however discounting the people carriers as we live 2 miles from the nearest piece of tarmac and the tracks have huge potholes, so much so, it’s beginning to kill our freebie 2 (new rear diff, front bearings and steering bushes in a year.

Our budget is about £10K, any suggestion, without having to move, shoot the dogs or the parents Wink Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200

Buy what you need to suit your circumstances. There are not many vehicles that tick every box, Defender included.
The Amazon is a massively capable vehicle, I had one out in the Middle East for 3 months and it was faultless.

I can only comment on the Amazon as I had one. They are incredible off road (with the right tyres) very comfortable on road and are loaded with kit. If i didn't have a Defender I would have one.

I had a BMW X3 for 2 days last week. It was excellent. 41 mpg, 4 adults plus boot full of stuff. Couldn't fault it apart from the dash is stock BMW family so a bit dull.

HEAPS of Landcruisers in Aus, they are the 4 X 4 by which all others are judged.
A friend of mine has the latest V8 Turbo diesel,...a torque monster,....and also very comfortable.

I used Landcruisers for about 5 years in Baghdad and they were as near as damned it faultless, even with an extra tone or so of armour inside them. They'll be fine with the dogs and parents.

There were a couple of Patrols on the fleet as well. They were good, just not quite as good.

What about the Nissan Pathfinder? Never been in one, don't know anyone who has one, but they look 'nice' as well as probably being dog and parent friendly while cruising down the motorway. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

IMHO the Nissan Pathfinder is not in the same class as a Landcruiser.

Thought about a Transit/Volkswagen/Merc van/people carrier type thing?

Some of them look good to me and would tick most if not all of your boxes and being based on acommercial model should survive the drive to your front door.
