To do a really pukka job will cost mega bucks, I know this is a Leyland Daff but it is along the same sort of lines

There has to be major strengthening of the back of the cab as the complete back wall is part of its structure, the sealing against the box has to be fairly flexible as the cab will move independantly of the box and both will move differently when the chassis moves. I've heard of quotes for more than £6k for such a set up, a crawl through would be significantly less but strength has to be put in the back of the cab and the sealing needs to be addressed. It's no wonder that the tilt mechanisms are welded up and the lorries converted into coach built horseboxes, fine for the owners but a real PITA for anyone having to work on the damn things.
Are you sure that you couldn't manage with a cctv system and intercom set up, a fraction of the cost Whistle

Ah just reread the post,

That's a big job, one for a experanced coach builder / body builder.
We have seen a lot of horse box conversions at work some good some really bad, one twit welded the cab down, we had to cut a hole in the floor to work on the engine, anyone worked on a Bedford mk /tk yuck !! Could you put a sleeper on top of the cab or do you need living quarters too.

As mentioned the rear bulkhead is a stress bearing member, think seat belt mounts, etc, you might be better off if it has a rear window in the cab make it into a access hatch as the cab would keep its strength.

Don`t forget a tilting cab rides on it`s own suspension as the rear body is bolted to the chassis, so some kind of sealing as between train carrages would be needed. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

Yeah. Certainly going to be a mission. We did think about welding the cab down but that soon got dismissed. Welding in a a small frame around the bulkhead when we remove it will be no problem, this should put back the strength. Just the sealing yet keeping the cab independent. We would probably remove the double seat in the cab and fit a single one and have the opening in between them.

My friend use to have a walk throu cab that tilted. Was done by an experienced coach builder and it use to squeak like Censored !

This is going to need more thought! Thumbs Up
