Definitely recommend it in the summer. I would love to be there for the summer solstice and see the 24 hr sun. When we went one august it was light enough at 2 in the morning to take photos. I've got one of an arctic fox which was nicking off with a wooden spoon I'd left with the dishes outside the tent. The Norwegians have put a lot of tunnels in to make normal driving easier but most if the old roads are still there but not maintained. We did a lot of these and found our best wild camping spots high on the fells. Got awakened by a herd of reindeer on the same night as the arctic fox.
For me the most interesting bit was the memorial to the convoys as I could take photos to share with my dad. My uncle was lost on one of the arctic convoys just off nordkapp. Barbara |

Hi SimonJ, I am now in Malmo so by the time I get back to Licolnshire on Thursday I will have been away for 16 days. I was on a solo road trip as opposed to a holiday and therefore I saw what I saw from the Landy windscreen. I had a few must do's including Trolls Road, Atlantic Road and Arctic Road from Narvik to Alta and the Malstrom near Bodo. I did steady miles every day with no hero days (475 the longest), trip up was spread over 9 days and a quick trip back through Finland and Sweden. I still had time for a half day cruise on Geirangerfiordd, half day at Alta museums and a full no driving day in a little fishing village near Nordkapp, which of course I fell in love with. Still a hop to Esbjerg tomorrow and back home to Lincs on Thursday, however, never been once that I have not wanted to jump back in the Landy despite its turbo blowing Dixie in double four time (a song from somewhere)
