1999 Defender 90 Td5 HT Rioja Red
Bit more progress on the soft top conversion.
Fitted new radio and radio mounting fascia what a pig of a job it seems no room for the big ISO plug that is now fitted to the radio. Even so quite pleased with myself as for a change I've added to the car rather then stripped it off and chucked it in the bin. Rolling Eyes

It goes in tomorrow to have speedliner front and back and some plating done to the large holes by each corner of seat box.
Should tidy it up nice, then the bars and new soft top get fitted.

Last job will be seats and wheels.

When you say speedliner front and back, which bits do you mean? and what is that costing you if you don't mind saying?

I'm having the inside of the rear tub and tailgate speedlined and also the front seat box and floor.
I'm colour matching it as well, cost £300 for rear and £200 for front, very keen price compared to some.
Wanted something to cover up the wear and tear and update the look.
Could have re sprayed it but wouldn't stand the dogs giving it the treatment!

Are you having them coated in-situ or off the vehicle?
I ask because if done in-situ surely that will make any future access very difficult and/or damage the coating when you try to undo screws, lift the floor panels etc? Even if the clutch / gearbox etc is currently in excellent condition who knows when failure may occur resulting in damage to the (quite expensive) coating? ONE LIFE, GET IT!

hi litch, i thought about that beforehand the seatbox lids done separate and gearbox tunnel also. all floor bolts and seatbox bolts out first, spent an age drilling out all bolts and replacing with stainless so the sprayer could do it without any hassle, as i am paying for his time thought it was my time wisely invested, so any issues later not an issue getting to the areas.

No not yet, I cannot get back to collect until Sunday, anticipation is killing me!!
Collect the soft top tomorrow as well.

all wheel trim are supplying the soft top, in sand with windows and I'm using the tenex fittings

No I had a hoop set made by purley metal, it similar to the nene overland setup on their softtops.

Its a bit more than similar, it is theres they use on some.

Funny you say that thought there was an amazing similarity to purley metals hoods and I noticed that all wheel trim supplied nene overland as well.
Even the sprayliner is done by the guy who used to do there's until they Censored him off.

Still not going with the camel badge having my own made, a jack Russell badge on the front as I bought the land rover to take the dogs out!

interesting stuff. My tilt/bracketery and "heavy duty stick set" will be coming tomorrow from All Wheel Trim..... i look forward to seeing yours, and if its the same as the purely metal one. Kim from AWT said he has a company "down south" make them for him in a non-specific kinda way. It will be 42mm ext OD, 3 uprights on each of the capping holes but no connection down to the chassis. The thing is galv and powder coated.

Cant wait! need to do it before the sun Censored off for the year!
