Puma Tdci - Which year to buy?
Hi everybody this is my first post!

After reading extensively the puma section of the forum this question came to mind:

I want to buy a defender 2.4 tdci. Reading the various issues (tank breather, engine noise, etc.) and seeing that at least one has been fixed (breather relocation) is it safe to buy a 2007 build defender (with better price) or significant changes have been made to the 2008 build one's that are worth the extra $$$?

Thanks for your feedback,

Cheers from Greece

To be honest, i think its luck aswell, i bought a june 07 defender brand new so one of the early ones and the only serious problems i have is the sump which needs replacing and the rattling gearbox, for the rest i rlly cant complain very much, its been on 2 vacations alrdy, the last one beeing heavy offroad in portugal and i regurly go playing in the mud and no not little puddles Laughing

Then u have people where everything seems to go wrong with their defender Neutral

So in my opinion its a gamble tbh Surprised

But in all fairness the later the model the better it should be cause the little child diseases will be fixed Idea

I agree - it is luck. My 07 has been mechanically fine. The fuel tank breather relocation is a DIY and any dealer will replace the sump pan during a service if you ask nicely. So without much effort you can have an 08 spec. anyway. 2007 Defender 110

Thank you so much for your replies. Still I cannot make up my mind whether i should spend 20% of the car's value to get a "fresh" landy. Neutral

I agree with the "luck" factor. Moreover I will know what to check for.

But if you had the choice today what would you choose? After knowing what's up...

I chose what it wanted and what i could afford. If i could only afford/only wanted to afforf an 07 then thats what i would have got.

Instead i could afford/wanted an 08 it just happened they had an already ordered 08 by the dealer (hence i had to have black and got all the extras) that was avaliable.

You know what to look for (bearing in mind you will always hear the worst case here) so just get an 07 if you are comfortable there and check the known issues and spend the extra on toys for it. Mike
