I have a Warn xd9000i winch and would like a wireless remote.
Question is: are the low cost remotes as found on eBay (and also on goodwinch.com) ok or do I go for the Warn wireless remote. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-12V-Winch-Wi...2c70b15002 ...or http://www.arbil.co.uk/4x4/products/90287-...emote.html Any feedback welcome. Cheers Simon |

If i were you id go for the expensive one, a winch is something you don't really want malfunctioning

That's kind of my thinking too, but the order of magnitude in price difference just made me ask the question.. Cheers Simon |

I use a snatch block with my winch if I want to slow it down. I also heard that wireless remotes introduce a slight delay when winching in or out, so that might be an additional cause of loss of precision..? Re: the paint, mine was the same after 10 years. I dismantled it recently and completely repainted it with silver wheel paint, which is similar to the original Warn colour. So far it's looking as good as new... Cheers Simon |

I decided to give one of the cheap eBay ones a try especially at the price so went ahead and got one. Give it its due it has performed faultlessly the only issue I have is that when you press the button it is difficult to use as an inching, ie very small commands, however briefly you press the button it will always work for a second or two, a definate "on" then "off" sequence. In those situations it is better to use the plug in handset.

I agree that it's easy enough to rig for a slower pull, but it's extra hassle (don't have the problem with the Huskys on the Defender and S1, now that is a good winch)!
Good idea re. the wheel paint, must give that a try next time I have the winch stripped. To be fair to the Warn, it's as good as any other epicyclic geared winch and better than most. It'll never be as good as a worm and gear winch, but it is a fraction of the price. On reflection my assessment is a bit harsh - you get what you pay for. |

It's plug and play plus a 12v supply. Good range and has taken a few dunkings without issue.
Battery in fob has lasted well too. |

The ceap ones get worse and worse, until you end up standing next to the winch!

Do the cheap ones operate in a way that if two of you have them, they don't interfere..?
I assume the Warn ones are ok to use together..? Cheers Simon |

I must admit that with my el-cheapo remote I wired in an isolator switch so that it, or any rogue signals will not activate my winch. I should hate to be trundling down a road and some kid with his remote control car in his garden happens to be sending the signal for my winch to pull in, nicely bending my bumper in half!
