United Kingdom 2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Santorini Black
2011 TDCI Gearbox filler plug size
Does anyone know the size of the hex key used for the filler on these? I know some have torx head filler and drains, but mine has a 8 mm hex drain and a much bigger hex filler, as its bigger than any allan key I have I'm not sure what to order.....has anybody filled a 2011 with a hex filler?

Interestingly the transfer box seemed to be short on oil just under 2 litres came out, I put just over 2 litres back in but need to check it properly when the car is level. There are no leaks whatsoever so I presume the factory must underfill them.

I swapped my Td5 bell housing wading plug with my gearbox filler plug, as the torx was getting chewed up and was much easier to deal with when in full view, and the wading plug is 3/8 drive, so just needed extension on a ratchet. Nice and easy.

Hi, I just checked the filler plug on my 2011 and it is a 8MM hex - same as the drain plug.

Are you sure you are looking at the right plug on the driver side (right hand drive) of the car? I noticed there is another big hex plug on the other side of the gearbox and for a while I presumed that one was the filler plug.

Here a pic of the filler plug on my gearbox. Very hard to see as is hidden by the props haft when you are under the car.
