Thanks for the photo, very interesting and probably (at last!) a definitive answer for what it was for!

My 2007 DC, which is also a fairly early one, does not have this feature, just the bracket.

Got this reply from a friend: Pim, its for lining up the gearbox/engine to the chassis during the build in the factory with a special tool. There is supposed to be nothing there after it leaves. Confused the hell out of me first time I saw it.

I would think that with that item remaining in place, there would be MORE vibration, coming through the body?

When removing the transfer box, it's usefull ti support the gearbox
