Strange noise when cruising at 70
My 2.2 90 makes a strange noise.....only when hot and only when the throttle hasn't been moved for a few minutes ie cruising at a steady ,otorway speed. It sounds like a quiet gritty whistle sound. As soon as I release the throttle a bit or increase foot pressure slightly it disappears until I haven't moved it again for a minute or so.
Any thoughts ? Is it some kind of gearbox whine ? Hard to tell where it's coming from due to all the other noise but sounds as if it could be rear of engine or front of transmission, at a guess...

Regen mode kicking-in for the DPF? Would explain why it only occurs after a period of steady-state running on the motorway. Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.
