TDci doors stolen
Hi,
Got woken up by the defenders alarm going off last night, to find the doors were gone. Tried to take the bonnet as well but have Mudstuff GBM bonnet hinges on. Took out nearside head light and indicator to try and by pass the alarm which went off any way.
They took all 4 doors from a 2012 Orkney Grey 110 utility and we are between Skipton and Keighley on the North York/West Yorks/ Lancashire border. the drivers door has a small scratch on it.
Unfortunately for them we got a registration and the police attended so hopefully they're nicked this morning. Still going to cost me my excess though.

I see ball bearing super glued in screw heads on hinges

problem is we need a security screw set that the scroates cannot buy the screw driver for off the internet

I bought a set that has every security screw bit for I think a fiver - not really going to stop them stealing my pride & joy if they just have to change over a screwdriver bit Exclamation 2020 P300 HSE

If they really want it they will have it, its more about slowing them down enough so the risk of them getting caught increases to a level that is unacceptable to the tea leaf.

Ball bearings seem a good solution until you need to get the door off yourself. A man with no boat is a prisoner

The FCX 130 has ball bearings in the heads of the bolts, if I never need to get the door off it'll be in the daylight with as many tools as is required to hand and no time limitations ...

Decent set of lightguards with security screws and as mentioned I too have resined ballbearings into the door hinge torx screw heads.

There are numerous relatively cheap and quick methods to achieve the 'layered approach.' Not a cure but if it holds them up a while they may lose interest. From another thread.....

If the doors do drop and you've the patience you can always spend 3-4 hours with an instrument screwdriver meticulously digging/chipping your way through the resin to clear the head out. Me I'd pay my son or daughter to sit there and do it!

It's normally just down to cost of repairs compared to value of vehicle. Used to be ~60%, but I'm sure this varies between insurers.

To OP sorry to hear about excess and all of your hassle. Have you checked your insurance details, most don't charge an excess for theft.

Sadly I must confess if mine went by way of stolen. Not sure whether I would bother with another .
G wagon or back to disco or rrs .
Of all the cars I have had this appears to be a magnet to thieves.

I assume you guys also fit security nuts to the hinge bolts on the inside of the door?

There's no point in fitting ball bearings to the heads if they can just open the door, whip four M8 nuts off and lift it off the hinge.

And what about the hinge pins? How do you stop them just knocking those through in 30 seconds with a centre punch and taking the door off that way?
