We can't shift the 2.4's mate.
Haven't been looking back on previous threads, so if this has been covered it's my own fault Smile

So when do you think dealers are going to play the card of sorry mate we can only take a pittance for your 2.4
in PX because no ones buying because of the £490 road tax on a 110 SW, LIKE MINE Rolling Eyes

I remember when I was really young I had a Pug 1.9 GTI, and it was round about the time when they were getting nicked by little scrotes.
Insurance rocketed, so I decided to sell at a loss, with the story from the dealer of we can't move them on.

The sooner i can get a 2.2 the better, what do you think?

It's a 'window tax!' I pay it and I only covered less than 4000 miles between the last two MOTs. It's a paltry excuse by the dealer to get you to PX at a minimum amount.

As for a 2.2 if the only reason is lower tax that's also a lame excuse in my view. I love mine and will retain it and continue albeit grudgingly to pay the higher road tax as I personally don't want or can justify shelling out on a 2.2 and start the modification process all over again.

Your choice at the end of the day! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

United Kingdom 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Santorini Black
rs2315,

What year is your 110, I have a 2010 Puma 2.4 Defender 110 (genuine, not a utility conversion) SW and my tax is £220pa, it is classed as an LGV. I understood that at some stage a few years back LR classed all the Defenders as LGVs to avoid the problems with getting passenger car type approvals on the Defenders.

I look at this as a 'one of those things' and put it into perspective that I pay about £200 per more than a newer 110,
which equates to about 2 tanks of fuel per year which I can easily use that a week if need be.

When I bought my 110 all the vehicles had the same tax on them, it was only after that I found there was a difference, cest la vie!

For me to change my vehicle to save £200 a year is not a real option as I am more likely to spend over that as a loss on trade in value and then on buying another vehicle, the time spent on setting it up to the standard I have now and sorting out any niggles that may present themselves.(it’s a cast of ‘better the devil you know’ most of the time!)

Just my opinion… and probably at odds to others here who are more penny conscious then myself. Embarassed Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

I'm easily swayed, I'm sticking with the 2.4. Thumbs Up

I'm sure if I do my sums, like others on here and sold for a 2.2 equivalent I'd be spending more than the tax is costing me.

Just hope that dealers never start to use 2.2 against 2.4 argument that i spoke of in my opening post.

On a side note is there any news on the new Defender, pics, info, etc.

Thanks to all for the input.

As you know 300tdi commercials can't be driven in central London but CSWs can, maybe the same will happen on TD5 commercials and TDCI commercials ... Shocked

You could always argue that the extra £200 a year road tax will offset against the DPF every 100,000 miles, especially if your a high mileage person.

Asked the salesman today for a rough value on my 2.4 110 Puma 7 seat County station wagon - through the window of the showroom. 18.000 kms.Bottom value was stated as £20.000 but gave the impression it would go higher if I sold it. He said he has a buyer for it if I decide to sell.Moral is, try another dealer. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

^^That's interesting. Earlier this year, and before my then sub 20,000 mile FMDSH clean and correct 2.4 110 XS USW turned three, I asked my usual dealer what they would allow me against a same spec new one and was quoted £16,000. That, and the woeful driving experience of the 2.2's I'd had on test made me decide to keep the current 110 for another year. Steve.
