puma immobiliser / remote / starting problem
After having a 200TDI as daily driver for 12 years I decided to purchase a puma in 2010. Love the vehicle and no issues.... until today... and I hope somebody could shed some light on the problem that has now raised it's head for the second time. The first time when switching off the landy getting out and using remote to lock nothing happened. I could lock and unlock the doors with the key but could not start the landy immediately. Ignition comes on when I turn the key and all dash lights operate as normal. Red immobiliser led flashes up until ignition comes on and then it stays lit. No matter what I do I can not get the engine to swing. The first time this happened I relocked the landy and left for some time as had an appointment. When I came back I manually unlocked and it started. When next stopped everything including remote for lock and unlock worked fine. That was about two months ago and I assumed that remote had been blocked as was in public park. Today... out in the bush with no one around... we climbed out the vehicle did not lock removed key and when we came back ignition would come on but it would not swing.. same pattern with immobiliser led . After about two hours of trying different scenarios we rolled back and tried to jump start with ignition on... would not start but then fiddled with buttons some more and then it suddenly would crank and led light was off but would not start. Played around with buttons again and then suddenly it started. Back home now, switched off, immobiliser activated after normal period... try to start ignition comes on normally but wont crank and start. Pressing buttons on remote does not operate locking or has no affect. Every now and then when I am trying to start horn sounds twice....

Check the connections to the 10AS alarm (Green) box thats on the bulkhead behind where the speakers are for water and corrosion.

Have you got 2 remotes, and do they both have the same effect?
If it is a 2010my, then the batteries should have been changed in the remotes at least once according to the Service Manual. Something simple to try. If both remotes act the same, then as Pete says, it is probably something to do with the alarm unit or connections. Thumbs Up LANDYWATCH

Thanks for the suggestions. No sign of corrosion (second remote at work so did not try that)and stranger yet left overnight and come the morning everything back to normal... remote works alarm activates deactivates landy starts no problem at all. Even worse in a way as do not know when will happen again

Did you change the batteries. When mine were getting old, the alarm had random behaviour.

Same experience here. When locking the car with the remote suddenly the orange turn signals would not come one anymore as indication that the alarm was on. The red LED would still start flashing, but when subsequently unlocking the car with the alarm, the red LED would for 15 seconds keep go on and off in an erratic mode..... Always could start the engine and drive off though. Seems those thngs happen as a warning of low remote battery, and yes, replaced the battery, and all was back to normal promptly. Replacing battery by one fresh out the blister is first thing to try Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
