Heater problems
Hi all,
I'm looking for a bit of help really with my heater, because it's got me stumped! Embarassed

If I turn the heater off completely by the lever, it still stays on low. And I can never turn it off completely. I've tried the cable, and all seems well there, and seems to be in the correct position on the side of the heater box. So, I don't really know what else to try!

He's anybody got any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Cheers

as far as I know, the heater on the 300s have a little heat exchanger/radiator and when you operate the lever it opens/closes a flap inside the heater unit to direct the air around or thru the h/e. so if you are still getting warm air the flap can't be fully open or closed.

Have you not got the Land Rover part no PB 15/10?

This is an insulated paper bag that hangs off the passenger air vent that you use to collect the warm air during the summer for use when the winter returns. When it's cold you take one of the bags and open it within the confines of the interior and if's used to supplement the poor performance of the heater.

Start storing now Thumbs Up

the cable is incorrectly adjusted or the linkage is not moving enough to close the flap fully or the seal around the falp (if there is one) has gone Cheers

Thanks very much for your help guys! I'll have a look to see if the flap is closing correctly. Anyone know where it is? Embarassed An engine to TDi for!

The flaps in the heater box have a rubber / fome seal witch perish over time this may be your fault

Inside the heater box where the cables attach to the flaps it's a pain to refit as you will have to drain the coolant then strip the heater box out of the car then drill out the old rivets strip the box and replace the rubber / fome seals then rebuild it all
Probably 1 1/2 days at my pace I have the same thing with mine but I just open a window and live with it for 6 months a year it's ok lol
Good luck

It's not too much of a problem to refurbish the heater but the results can be well worth it as a correctly set-up heater is very effective, most of the complaints about poor heater performance can be fixed in a matter of minutes if you know aht you are looking for.

I know the previous answer was TIC but realistically you will EASILY get it done in a (very) leisurely day. Very Happy
Make sure you have everything you need to hand (coolant, rivets, sealant, seals etc) as the last thing you want is to have the vehicle off the road while you order a part. Worth considering changing the matrix while you are at it, they do rot out and as you have the heater apart it is no additional work whatsoever to change it.
Setting up the flaps appears to be a black art to some but when you look at the inside of the heater and see what each flap actually does it is very clear. A few minutes spent here will pay dividends. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Remember there is also the potential for the cables to be incorrectly adjusted where the control lever connects to them on the right end of the dashboard. its an easy job to check and adjust and may be worth trying.
