SAT/GPS NAVIGATION - Best App for Mobile/Tablet
Hi All,

I've seen on here where some people have used electronic maps on their iPad/tablet

I am using CoPilot HD and TomTom HD on my Ipad Mini which both work brilliantly with the CoPilot being a bit more user friendly(impo). However, I want something that gives detailed Ordnance Survey Maps or similar with a view to exploring our countryside, greenlaning, etc....

There seems to be loads of different Apps ie. Viewranger, Memory Maps, OS, OutDoors GPS, ETC....., which are free to download, but they all seem to get mixed reviews and become quite expensive when you download the 'in-app purchase maps'.

With all the knowledge and experience you all have What seems to be the best?

Any review good or bad would be a great help.

Thanks in anticipation

I have had a look now and again at these apps and was always steered towards the memory map software because its cross platform compatible. You can get it on you laptop computer and ios/mac by buying the maps in one you have it on them all. So you will get bigger bang for your buck.

Also is there not a feature where you can plan your route on your computer and export them to you ipad or something.

Im interested, do you have an ipad mini mount on your dash?

I dont have an ipad mini yet but was looking at going down that route. William

Hi William,

Thanks for reply.

I have an Ipad Mini that is in a Griffin Survivor Case(to protect from the Defenders leaks!!!) so it's not the easiest thing to mount, but saw a mount that Devon4x4 sells that attaches to the seat rails in the Defender and I think it is a Ram system. I also want to use it in a series one 80 but don't want to have to start drilling holes into the dash. I'm gonna have to figure that one out, but the Defender is more important.

The size of the mini is just perfect for me in the Defender as it doesn't take up much space or get in the way of the view.

The computer part always confuses me when syncing/transfering and I get so frustrated that I give up hence using the iPad and an app for simplicity.

Thanks

like you say, lots of options ...

Ram-Mount.co.uk is a good place for mounting kits.. download the catalogue and go from there, so much to choose from, but a search on the forum will reveal what most are using. I am using a 1 1/2" ball on my grab rail in the puma, its strong enough to support a panasonic toughbook or an ipad

ipad has memory map, maps can get quite pricey, but there are ways around it.
panasonic running Windows7 Ultimate runs MM fine

there are lots of free nav apps on the istore too
