Connecting a secondary fuse panel
I've got a 12 way fuse panel with a negative buss bar that I want to install in the battery compartment of my MY13 Defender. Connecting up the +ve side will be easy but the negative terminal on the battery seems to have a battery connector designed to not mke it easy to connect up the -ve buss bar on the fuse panel. Where should I connect the -ve to? Any suggestions? 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

Does your negative terminal not have a bolt in it that you can connect a ring tongue terminal to? If not replace it for one that does! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

No, it doesn't - that's what surprised me.... getting it replaced might be the best option at the moment 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

You're not a million miles from me and I am a sparky. If you need any auxilliary leads made or crimping I have the heavy-duty crimps together with the crimp tool and some 10mm and 6mm cable left over from my own fusebox installation project in the garage. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. Will have to be weekend job though.

I fitted mine in the battery compartment too with a 60 amp megafuse. Details in the link below the picture.

What about running the negative out of the battery box and connecting to the same point on the back of the gearbox as the battery -ve as a short term solution until I do the whole dual battery thing? 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

I did that (almost). I put the new negative to the point where the earth bolts to the chassis...and replaced the original nut & bolt with stainless items to reduce the rish of corrosion causing a bad earth in the future.

If you follow the thick earth lead under the car you wll see it splits, one end earths on the chassis (the one I used) and the other earths to the back of the motor/gearbox Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

The battery box looks the same as 2.4's

I crimped a new ring terminal to the factory earth and ran it to a busbar, I then used new leads from the two battery earth posts to the bus bar

I then ran a 70mm positive (top left) through a mega fuse from the second battery through to a positive bus bar under the drivers seat
