It maybe worth contacting the / a manufacturer direct and asking as I would expect that there is a firmware update released out that will make it compatible. Not sure on the lightning connector though. Although there is adaptors available. Perhaps that is worth a try and relatively cheap too.

My Kenwood has a USB connection and I can charge my iPhone 5 from that using the sync cable and still have audio streaming over Bluetooth.

Finding a head unit with an integral lightning connector is gonna be pretty tough I reckon.

Don't most iPod compatible headunits use the standard iPod cable now, so the lightning cable supplied with the phone is used to connect it up?  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I wouldn't bargain on it Martin although I guess different bands vary. Most as far as I know use the 30pin plug but seeing as I don't have either a ultra modern HU not iPhone 5 I can't be sure. Personally I've not seen anything to do with the lightning plugs yet on any I.C.E. system but happy to be proved wrong.
There is these available though:

Steve, agree that older HUs (like the one I have in my 90) use their own connectors/adapters to the wide 30-pin iPod/iPhone connector. I was under the impression that (most of?) the newer ones used a USB port for iPod/iPhone Confused

Using an adapter in the car is clunky, have to it with mine to charge the iPhone and it constantly detaches Big Cry  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

What is odd with the alpine, the phone works for calls etc via Bluetooth.
For music and charging you have to select source USB .

Most HU's have a female USB socket and in my case video jack and audio jack too. These then plug into the Kenwood specific IP300 Ipod Audio Video cable which then connects to the iPod / device.

my Alpine headunit works fine with the dedicated Ipod lead. Just put and adapter on taking it down to the smaller size plug for the Iphone 5. Can play standard Ipod as well. Not sure if it dose everything it should as Yes got an Iphone 5 but don't know how that works Whistle All the gear no idea Thumbs Up

Since Apple allowed 3rd partys to read digital audio over the USB then headunits have gone down the USB socket only, not requiring the audio/video separately.

See the Kenwood iP101 cable, etc Wink  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

iPhone 5 works fine with all my JVC head units (one in each car of different ages/models). The oldest one has a JVC iPhone lead that you have to use but it works fine with the adaptor. The other two just use the USB cable so the normal charging/syncing cable works.

Full control over music playing from the head unit (skipping tracks, track/artist display etc...) as well as charging.

I chose the JVC in the first place as they were the only supplier publicly claiming 100% compatibility with iPhone for both music playback and hands free use. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/
