2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Alpine White

Service Parts List

Hi Guys, im getting a list together of service oils and parts required and wondered about clutch fluid and power assisted steering fluid... do i need them and where are they in the car

My list so far below (please take a look see if anything needs adding)

1. Engine Oil Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil need 8 litres
2. Gearbox Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 Fully Synthetic MTF need 3 litres
3. Transfer box Fuchs Titan Race SYN 5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil need 3 litres
4. Diffs Castrol Axle 'EPX' for the Diffs need 4 Litres
5. Air Filter - Genuine - TDCI part no PHE500060G
6. Fuel Filter - Genuine - TDCI part no WJI500040G
7. Oil Filter - Genuine - TDCI part no LR004459G
8. Oil Drain Plug and Rubber Seal part no 1013938

2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Santorini Black

Clutch fluid should be topped up to the "max"

PAS fluid should be filled to the midway mark (between max and min)

Check before buying if you need to top up

PAS fluid is near the front passenger side (for UK cars) fairly close to the radiator

Also re engine oil I know they come in 4 litre bottles but you only need 7 litres - don't overfill

and get a grease gun onto the prop shafts...

Easy to do whilst you are underneath waiting for the oil to drain.

Not done SWIVELS myself yet...

Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Thanks guys.

I just went to see a mechanic who is going to rent me his ramp so i can do the work, he says i can use plain 80/90 mineral oil for items 2/3/4

2. Gearbox Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 Fully Synthetic MTF need 3 litres
3. Transfer box Fuchs Titan Race SYN 5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil need 3 litres
4. Diffs Castrol Axle 'EPX' for the Diffs need 4 Litres

Does that sound ok? he has an oil filling gizmo thats already full of it.

No way - go with manufacturers specification every time. Why take the risk as the money on the items you have selected is not huge. That Castrol Alxe EPX oil is 80W 90 Mineral Oil anyway. Would definately use synthetic for the Transmission and Transfer box

Also you may want to check brake fluid - top up if its been drained and refilled in last 2 years, else will need bleeding and refilling with DOT 4

No way - go with manufacturers specification every time. Why take the risk as the money on the items you have selected is not huge. That Castrol Alxe EPX oil is 80W 90 Mineral Oil anyway.

The cost here is vastly different to the UK, for example the parts shop here will charge 96 quid for the engine oil alone; 7 litres, in Halford it would cost you about 40 quid.

Spain isnt cheap either, they are in the middle of a crisis and ripping people off appears to be the only survival strategy that the shops have figured out.

if i can use that oil for all three and its suitable, it makes sense to do so. Question is, will it cause problems to use the same for all three?

i took a look at brake fluid, its brown

yes, it needs doing as well

Yeah its normally brown - not an indication that it needs changing

Only change if water content is high which I'm not sure how you test for other than changing say after two years or after 24000 miles (handbook will say how often this needs changing).

To completely change you will need a kit to ensure air doesn't get trapped in the system (important)

re Transmission and Transfer box - LR clearly specifies synthetic oil. Don't know what could happen if you use mineral - hopefully someone else on here might know

Im struggling to believe that LR would sell a car destined for the various different armpits and arseholes of the world and it needing fancy pants oil... That seems like a bit of a limitation.
