2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Stornoway Grey
Tow Ball on NAS rear Step
I need to tow an Ifor Williams 510 twin axle horsebox with my 90 xs fitted with an NAS Rear Step Tow bar. However, even when the tow ball is fitted to the lower pair of fitting holes on the tow bar, it is still too high. I know I could get an adjustable Dixon Bate type fitting bit don't really want it to impact ( Razz ) on the ground clearance that much. What are your views on using a fixed drop plate arrangement to lower the towball the required amount but no more? Fitting is simple and cost is less but what about safety when towing up to 3500kgs?

Advice appreciated.

Tow ball high with the NAS rear step, is the reason a few members on here have got rid of the step,, and fitted a proper adjustable tow bracket !!

Do a search, has been a couple of threads about it, along with some iffy pictures Shocked California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

If you have a step with holes in it for a 50mm ball it's not a NAS step. The NAS version has a reciever.

No snags, many people seem to use NAS in the description, how about calling it the rear step bumper (VPLDP0095) then if this helps.

You may gather, Fekete has now changed his towing equipment, I presume to get rid of the "drop plate" arrangement
The problem is, with a plate on a "NAS Style" Rolling Eyes towbar/step, The forces loaded on the ball/plate are far greater than the weight of the trailer, certainly when trying to stop it when going down hill,, or the trailer starts to "wag" !!!
The "plate/towball" would need at least some sort of bracing, leading from the bottom, back to the chassis rails,,

While i would love a step bar on mine, its of no use to me, as it spends 90% of the time when not aboard towing , with various heights of trailer hitches, i have to have the genuine slider/adjustable tow bracket California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1
