Gearbox problem
Hi there!

A friend of mine have a weird problem with his Gearbox (MY08 or 07 I believe)

He have problems to engage the 1st, 5th gear and the reverse, but during the mornings and at certain times during the day the gearbox working pretty good. To engage the reverse he must shutdown the car, engage the reverse and then, startup again to going backward (not so useful).

The car have 110.000 km (out of guarantee). The gearbox oil has been changed 20,000 km ago and the transfer oil just 1,000 km ago due a leakage.

According to the stealer the gearbox should be replaced.

Any toughts about the cause of the problem?

Thanks in advances for the ideas Eduardo

Eduardo,
Seems that the selector forks in the gear train are faulty.
Only way to cure this is gearbox out and replace selector fork or new gearbox.

He could take the GB to the "casa de la caja de cambios" to get another diag. They are pretty good fixing GB´s. Get the parts from LR or Aschcroft. New one is GBP850+tax+shipping=a lot.....or get one from a wracked Transit....lots of alternatives. Puma 110" SW

Transit gearbox will not quite fit easily - beware!!!
Besides, 'wacked gearbox' from Transits may give premature failure.

Meant the parts of a wacked Transit not a "wacked" Transit gearbox. Transits are about a year old here.  Puma 110" SW
