Looks like you were having a real blast! How does the Jeep compare to the Landie off road. (for all those Landie purists I know this is where we were all born!!)

I'm a through and through Lanny enthusiast all the way, but this monster climbed rocks that you couldn't walk over!!! It went through swamps that the Land Rover wouldn't even dare to.It had 38 inch tyres and a 4 litre Chevvy engine and was built for this purpose. There was nothing underneath the Jeep shell that was standard....It was a monster!!! It puts rock crawling to a different extreme. As i said..........it was a blast.Going back next year to have more fun as it's gonna have a bigger and better engine...I'll keep you all posted. It's difficult to compare, as you have to compare like for like. If you do the same to a 90, same tyres, uprated suspension, probably lockers etc. Then you can compare.
In standard form a 90 is better, I think. But a J p is lighter. Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

I was hoping someone else would ask first so I didn't look daft, but alas no, so what are the tubular structures on the front and back of the Jeep for? Excellent photos by the way, I really want to go to Canada now. Peter

Hi Pete,
Basically the tubular structures are roll bars. The red necks in Canada really like to play in the mud and climb really steep rocks to the point that them tubular structures stop you going too far forward or too far back!! They are there for a purpose!! And when I was there we well tested them out...and they work!!! The front one stopped us from flipping over a few times. It's a case of changing your trousers when you play with these guys!! lol NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY Last edited by fekete on 21st Sep 2009 11:53pm. I was imagining some winching or towing application, but now you say roll protection it seems obvious. Peter

I imagined something like this but we in Europe can not have certain appendages, at least not for use on roads open to public traffic. Vale
