Just had the tyre repaired. A *something* had stabbed right through the tread (the outer bit, not the inner bit) leaving a hole and no other detritus. My mind is leaning towards wondering if some friendly soul had left a spike in a puddle or something, whatever it was drove a hole though about an inch of reinforced rubber and steel.

Having said that, where we turned right into that byway near the John Deer dealership, there used to be loads of old metal in amongst old tarmac chucked in the ruts, before it was levelled like it is now, so maybe there was something poking out? (not sure if you noticed some really old farm machinery chucked in the scrub to the left of where we changed your wheel)

I think it had gone flat before we hit the hard stuff (just before where you describe, where we turned left to then turn right)

Might have been a flint Dan

Due to the amount of time i go to the Plain my BFG's have cuts in the tread and slashes on the sidewalls.

When pulling stones out of my last set of BFG's I pulled what looked like a flint arrow head out of one of the tread blocks.

I once took out a friend of mine onto the Plain with a RR Sport on standard Pirellis and they wrote off three of their four tyres due to sidewall cuts that exposed the core.

Luck of the draw on the day

Mark

Hi Mark,
No it wasn't a cut, it looked more like a nail had been hammered in - a very fine hole, and very smooth, also like I say about an inch or so deep and straight... Nor was it the sidewall, it was through a chunk of the tread that would normally be in contact with the road. 2011 110 USW

That's a nice little lane that one. I didn't do it on the weekend (although other might have)

Funnily enough, when I left our little group (I got them back to Gore cross before I headed N to Devizes) there was a Chinese looking chap wandering around looking lost, and he started walking down that byway (in his shoes & trousers Rolling with laughter )

you do find funny things on the plain, the reason i have said about that byway is that quite a few times people have reported nail type punctures from down there, i have only ever done it once and i got one and thats the only one i have ever had whilst laning, they were at one point trying to get it closed(i assume those that live in that cottage)

Yeah, it was TRO'd a few years back wasn't it. I can't imagine that it gets used that often... the ruts never look that deep or fresh.

Just nimbys in that cottage I suppose Rolling Eyes
