Anyone else noticed that it seems they only tickle the paint on now.

I cant understand why - after running water based paint for 12 years i can remember, the paint "thickness" and "strength" seems so poor now (probably cost)...or is it me Rolling with laughter

just a rant Whistle Thumbs Up Mike

Mine has been in the dealers for the last two weeks mostly due to bad paint work. This is mostly panels that are showing primer through the top coat, mine is Galway Green so this is quite easy to see. Under the bonnet had very little top coat. There were also lots ot chips when it was delivered. On top of this, one front wing was repaired before it was delivered and then the dealer promptly went and damaged it again !

I have asked the dealer for paint thickness readings from all panels to see exactly how much paint is on the vehicle, I expect this will not be given to me !

I had some paint damage from new and then the repair (in the gutters and roof) failed with the roof roack so was repaired (after a battle) under warranty.

Stone chips and similar on the bonnet worse than ever the others!

I had mine lifeshined which i think helps and protects a little more, but it seems to pick up scratches, what annoys me is some i know is the dealer but its always difficult to prove, especially when the wash and polish it.

But still its not as durable as once before. Mike

On delivery, mine had little or no paint on the underside of the bodywork and the axles and the chassis were rusty. I had it waxoiled professionally within a month and the rear crossmember re-painted at the first service about five weeks ago. The rear crossmember is rusty again already and the paint is peeling off the metal grill under the rad grill. It did not help when the dealer said after it had been delivered, having spent £26k, 'They are all like that, you've brought a commercial vehicle, what do you expect'. And, it's only the BAS upgrade that make it driveable.
The only thing I might replace it with is a Disco 3. With a BAS upgrade. However, mechanically, it's not been as bad as some of the horror stories I've read on the forum, but I think I am now beginning to regret buying a Defender.

It's pretty sad when their only excuse is "they are all like that". What difference does it make if it's a commercial, especially £26,000's worth of commercial!!! It realy makes my blood boil when I here comments like that and "it's characteristic of the marque sir". Although I love the Defender, I'm not sure I'll buy another unless LR change their attitude and quality. Rant over (for the time being).

I must be lucky as my dealer has not taken that attitude !

I heard last night that my vehicle is to be replaced by Land Rover due to the bad paint work and build quality.

I will not know full details until next week so I have my fingers crossed !

I wish you the very best of luck, but wouldn't hold my breath that it's going to be any better. The paint may be OK but what about the rest of it?

I agree that the mechanicals could be the same or worse but the paintwork on the one going back had to be seen to understand how bad it was. There was no way I was going to have a full respray, it was NOT offered,
so replacement is the way forward - or is the backwards !
