French emmissions zones
Bonjour!

Planning my first jaunt through France in May. It’s been a while so there are a few changes I’m not fully up to speed on.
1. Low emissions zones - I’m headed down to Marseille, am I right to assume the L663 diesels are clean enough to drive everywhere? Or is that wishful thinking? How does it work for foreigners?

2. Emovis tag - does it work through in-spite of the heated windscreen filaments?

3. Headlight deflectors - anyone with snaps of the placement? I assume it’s just bottom rightish..

4. Of course I’ve got the sticker (“UK” not GB ughhh) Anything else I should be aware of?

5. Any tips on cheeky wild campsites north of Lyon?

I only ever put fuel in mine and go. Never even think about it. Confused

As for the Emovis, it works fine with the screen. Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

i follow the European to uk travellers headlight rule when they come over here.... they dont change theirs and i dont change mine. never been a problem in years.

the clean air zones like the uk i avoid now and spend my brass elsewhere.

tag wise they seem to work ok on most screens inc heated

It’s Euro 6 so should be fine anywhere, but you will need the crit-air sticker to put on the windscreen.

The tag works fine as above.

On the standard headlights they have a flat beam so you don’t need any deflectors. On the premium or matrix lights you can change the dipping side in the Pivi menu, so deflectors not required either.

Thanks for the heads up on the ZFEs, €3 "Zone 2" sticker; requested!

When I saw the estimated lead time, I was sweating for a minute, but the FR Gouv website now quotes 10 days for delivery [Granted - if that's 10 french working days... that could well be 6 weeks from now!

AND
In the FAQs they commit to sending an invoice and image of the sticker within 24hrs of payment, confirming the application is approved which, and I quote: "can be used to prove the classification of the vehicle whilst I wait for the certificate in the post".

So in reality, I should be fine to drive once I receive that email tomorrow.

I guess/hope I can print this image and whack it in the windscreen until the real one arrives?

So heads up.. mine took nearly 3 weeks to fall through my letter box after the email confirmation (Feb this year).

But on the plus, I have just looked at the email, and you’re right, full image is attached so you’ll be covered!

Winner!

Likewise, I’ve never done my headlights.

There area load of bits your supposed to carry too.. but that’s up to you;

First aid kit, warning triangle, high viz, maybe a breathalyser , check out the RAC website if you really want that gold star.. Rolling with laughter

Thanks for this - I don't have an option to change "driving side" in the settings/vehicle/exterior lights menu. So I assume (haven't paid much attention until now), that mine are flat beam.

I'm sure the French will let me know if I'm wrong on this one! Désolée!

The list of stuff to take is minimal as it used to include spare bulbs and breathalysers but as you have LED lights both front and rear and the breathalyser rule was never put into force you’re ok. The triangle/hi-vis is just common sense as they’re worthwhile if you suffer a puncture on the traffic side you’ll be much safer being seen. I know through experience on a busy route through Rouen when my trusty light up and flashing triangle kept me from being mince. Worth every penny. 👍🏻 24MY 130 X-Dynamic HSE Santorini Black

I had a work colleague who had been talking about her retirement home in the south of France for years and years. When she finally retired, on the second day of her retirement, she took her caravan and all her worldly belongings with her.. The caravan got a puncture, and while they were fixing it, she was hit by a truck and died. I will always remember Eileen, and to have a high-vis and triangle in the car.

I didn't know the breathalyser thing wasn't published law. I've kept a pair of the cheapest breathalysers rolling around under the boot floor of various vehicles for well over a decade! Sacré bleue.
