I'd take that right now.
I had a new windscreen fitted on our Transporter in October, less than 30 miles later some idiot raced out of a layby peppering the windscreen with stones and cracked it. First time I waited 3 months for the windscreen which was on back order, the insurers refused to pay for a genuine one (despite the van being less than 9 months old) so had to pay the difference, £560 and 30 miles. Haven't had a new one fitted yet, was waiting for the worst of the pothole season to be over (if that still exists) and it's on back order again. Tall vehicles with flat screens (not raked) and crap roads is the worst combination |

I have the same. After 10k kms I have two cracks and 4 big chips.
It was the same with the new G-class that I had before but not with the previous gen. My theory is that the film that is in the windscreens now make them like a sandwich and the outer layer more prone to cracking and chipping due to it being thinner. About to have my third screen in 25,000 miles.
My D3 had one screen in 231,000 miles and that was at 18,000 miles. Talking to the windscreen fitters, they do a lot of Defenders. There were two in when my last screen was fitted. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

Although not entirely avoidable, keep you distance from vehicles in front of you does reduce the risk, especially if the vehicle in front of you is a dump truck.

I just wonder what road conditions people are driving on to get so many cracked/chipped windshields. I had a Mini Cooper for several years and people complained about the same thing.
While the Defender does have a more upright windshield there are many other vehicles that have worse. Feels more like a correlation vs causation exercise. |

It does differ between cars and models and that's the annoying part. As mentioned I had the old gen G-class for many years and that just ate the pebbles coming at it without breaking. Same with the old Range Rovers etc. Also my old defenders never crack just chip a little.
The new g-class and new defender seem to share the fact that the screens are more prone to cracking. I went through 4 screens on the new gen G-class over 80k kms. This combined with long waits on new screens make it a pain in the.... And yes, I do live in the countryside so am more exposed to gravelly roads but older cars managed better is what Im saying. 2024 Defender 110 p400e HSE 2015 Defender 110 Double cab 2004 Defender 90 Td5 |

I saw the stone flip up from a passing lorry (A road, coming in the opposite direction) that chipped my 3 month old screen - the fact that it hardly made any noise when it hit tells you all you need to know about its insignificant size.
JLR must know about this if they ask their supplier how many winsdscreens they are getting through. And presumably it showed up during prototype testing? This should be a top 5 priority fix for Defender MY25! Question - for those who have had their screens replaced, did anyone get a non-OEM one fitted or was only the JLR factory fit version offered? I’d be interested to know if the Autoglass equivalent was more robust. Let’s face it - can’t be any worse! |

I got a Fuyao branded windscreen fitted by Autoglass, didn’t seem any better or worse than the LR branded windscreen. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Same. It worked fine, no issues until the next stone.
To be honest, in whatever car we've had as a family we've never had OEM and never had any issues. The warranty is there so I don't worry. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

Yes, stone chips to windscreens are an annoying issue, & is very prevalent in Aussie, particularly in view of the unsealed edges of our roads.
I copped two chips to the screen of our Defender whilst we owned it, both within a week of each other, both caused by stones flipped up by oncoming traffic. I didn't want to replace the original screen, & luckily both chips were easily & promptly repaired,....good to do them asap as it can prevent cracks developing. |

I am on my 3rd screen in 12 months. I guess it just happens with some cars. I had the same issue with my D4.

So far we have got away with one screen in 3.5 years, all down to a truck throwing up a rock
at high speed straight into it, the wife’s 2010 RRS averaged a screen every year.. and that is more raked back than the Defenders, down to pot luck it seems.. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

Mines got a 12” crack in it, straight down from the top middle 10” and now moving over to the passenger side 2”. Booked in for changing 15th April. That’s the first availability Autoglass has got.
