Slow running on high speed is almost certainly indicative of the high-speed brush on the motor having worn out. The HS brush is half the section of the LS and common brushes and consequently wears much faster.
It is possible to replace the brush plate in your current motor but the brush plates seem to be quite hard to find and it is usually easier to fit a new motor. Here is a photo of mine when this happened, the HS brush is the one on the right in the photo and you can just see the size of the worn-out bit, half the section of the other two brushes. I have no idea why they're made like this, I imagine there must be a reason.  Click image to enlarge |

I would put a new(good quality) park switch on it while you’re in there.

If replacing the brushes that would be sensible, a new motor would come with a new park switch.

New wiper motor and wheel boxes ordered. New screen going in next week after the world’s biggest wood pigeon cracked it head on at 60. Messy. It has been noted that the wheel boxes are knackered as the windscreen rubber is marked at the bottom on both sides and on the drivers side.

Hi,
I had the exact same issue on my defender 300 tdi. Replacement of the parking switch solved all issues. https://www.lrdirect.com/520160-switch-park Very simple, 5 minutes to replace it and quite cheap. |

Unfortunately to access the motor and spindles it’s a dash out job on a puma so full new set up going in if I have to make that much effort. I don’t want to have to do it again in six months

You don't have to take the dash out to do this job in a Puma, all you need to do is to free off the dash fasteners and ease it away from the bulkhead enough to get a hand or two between the dash and the bulkhead. Not removing completely it will save a lot of time - about an hour is enough to swap out the entire wiper system if it isn't the first time you've done it.
