That’s good news, perhaps change the air filter and fuel filter, the latter has a water drain on it that could be checked. But VCV, is a very likely culprit of poor performance.
There is the injectors and glow plugs, but you’d need diagnostics to check those out.
Glow plugs can be checked easier for DTC’s, with more basic equipment, but, the Injectors are a little bit more complex.

As mentioned on another thread, you might find it worthwhile bridging the clutch switch to see if that is playing any part in it. If it suddenly improves you can safely say it needs a new clutch switch or just leave it bridged.
But the 2 pole JPT connectors and little thinwall auto cable is cheap enough to try if anyone wanted to.
In my experience the clutch switch, and VCV has a significant effect on performance if they fail, things like the tube actuator sticking can also be a factor.

Thanks for your help, will check the clutch switch and change VCV, it has had new injectors just before xmas due to seals leaking and chuffing. New diesel pump a year or two ago, egr replaced just before xmas, only code that was showing then was maf but the indy said the egr was stuck open so that was probably why it was showing the maf.
Last service was August.

Can the VCV be changed without a relearn?

Yes it can, most don’t do a learn, just replace VCV and drive for a few miles and it self calibrates.

Thanks for the replies👍
Checked the clutch switch still had the blip when accelerating and good amount of white smoke on start up, clears when warm.

Update- driven over a 1000 miles now clanking not returned so far, new lof clutch bundle fitted with lof output shaft. The splines were worn on the tip of the shaft.
Need to change vcv when I get time smoking on start up and a little eratic but clears when warm.
New front bumper needed, seat sponges then treat the chassis in the summer, happy days👍

Does sound like the VCV change would be beneficial. Thumbs Up Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
