Tub seats in Puma DCPU?
Anyone done it? I appreciate will not be legal to use on the highway, but would be useful for shoot days etc and farm transport off the highway.

Do standard side facing older defender/series bench seats fit the irritating Puma dog leg bench sides? Suspect not, but suspect there isn’t a seat made to do so either.

Would it be an MOT fail if fitted, or only an offence to use on the highway?

Thanks

Old seats won't fit without extensive work since the tub is designed for the latest forward-facing seats. It will should be an MoT test failure unless compliant seatbelts are fitted and I am not sure this is possible for side-facing seats. Side-facing seats are also not type-approved for a late Defender and whilst this is not an MoT failure point it would be a red rag to VOSA etc.

There is no legislative reason why passenger seats have to be enclosed, so if you were able to fit forward-facing seats with belts in the open rear tub it would, as far as I know, be OK to carry passengers in them on the road. It is likely however that it would result in regular and interesting conversations with the old bill who, no doubt, would have strongly-held if possibly erroneous views of their own.

Thanks- yes, tricky. Would only work with bench. Might just tell the lads they’ll have to sit on a coat….easier!

Just FYI I did extensive research when retro fitting bench seats to my series lightweight tub. Lawful to retro fit these to the tub so long as insurance informed. Not lawful to retro fit side facing seats with belts unless these (the belts) were an original fitment.

Prob didn’t make it clear- lawful to retro fit side benches (to the Lightweight), so long as seat belts are not fitted.

Yes, but they must be fitted in the Puma and there are no approved belts for side facing seats.

Gwyn Lewis makes a bracket to fit discovery 1 jump seats to the Puma stepped wheel arches: https://gwynlewis4x4.co.uk/product/diy-dickie-seat-base/

May be a solution ?

I have been contemplating going that route since removing the 2 foldable forward facing seats of my Puma CSW (around 60kg less weight and much more load space). I have sourced all required parts, but never got around fitting yet. These are not intended to be used on the road, and temporarily removed every second year for the french MOT so no questions asked.
