Squeak / rattle coming from engine on cold start
I've noticed a squeak / chirp / rattle coming from the front of the car over the last few months from a cold start. It lasts a few minutes and then goes away, cannot be heard inside the cabin.

It's a 2021 D250.

Is it worth raising it under warranty for investigation? (Only recently come back from having the adventure kit repaired / replaced under warranty! Laughing )

Thanks Smile

Hi I have the same problem on my 2021 d300.So I contacted Land Rover assist for an engineer to diagnose when cold.Turned out its a known problem concerning a belt tensioner bolt/screw at the front of engine.they don't know why it happens Rolling Eyes but seems to be an easy fix.The problem now is parts for repair are on back order!! so time of fix is a guess

Ah, the old "it's a back order part" thing again - thanks for the info Smile

I'll log a warranty claim for it and see where it ends up...

Yep I would agree that it's the belt tensioner, mine was replaced under a recall but that only lasted about 6 months and it went again, it would chirp away on a cold start but once the engine was warmed up it went quiet. When it was replaced the second time I had to wait around 6 weeks for the parts to come into stock Thumbs Up Cheers Ian

This turned up on my D300 1 week after my 2 year service last month.
I reported it and the dealer took it in and replaced a 'belt'... they did not elaborate and my Japanese technical proficiency stops there.
All done within a day, and on warranty. 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof

serpentine belt snapped on Defender 250
My serpentine belt snapped today. 2023 with 15000 miles. Is this a common problem? Land Rover assist coming out tomorrow. I have also bern having issues with the start stop system, after going through deep puddles, shutting the ignition off totally requiring a restart. Awkward at junctions sometimes!

So Wednesday evening on my way to Oxford fan belt went on my D250 90HT (battery charge system fault warning and engine overheating warnings soon let me know).

Land Rover assist AA guy came out. Knew exactly what was wrong (seen it before on the L663) but didn't have the parts. Was due in for a service yesterday anyway. Despite this obviously being a known issue and me telling them what the problem was, still heard nothing about when it might get fixed and still no courtesy car. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

What mileage has your Defender done.

I'll listen out for any chirping noises on start up, mine is on 9,500
So what's the "known fault" then, failure of the auxiliary belt tensioner pulley?

Serpentine belt
Exactly the same. The Land Rover assist chap came out the next day and despite me having told them what the problem is he did not have the parts. He was very nice and helpful and will come back on Friday to fit a new belt. No offer of a vehicle. Luckily I have my disco 4 still.

Belt tensioner
Mine is was making a chirping noise for a couple of days but it was very wet so I did not think it was an issue. It just sounded like my old series 2. He said that he will replace the tensioner.

Had a recall done on our D300 - F-Pace for this same issue, it had only done 700 miles so we hadn't experienced the issue but they've recalled ours for this so could be worth checking if there are any outstanding recalls for the L663

Really encouraging stuff! Shocked

I've had no reply to the online query, so started calling them - still not been able to have a conversation with anyone! They keep promising to call back, I had one missed that I returned within 30secs and still couldn't get hold of anyone.

This morning the Mrs was going to use the Defender for a longish run, got 10mins down the road and came back because it's squeaked non-stop, usually only does it for 10-20secs.

She's in the Lexus now, and I'm once again awaiting a call back from Land Rover.

Well, mine isn't squeaking. l'll have a look at the belt though, and see if it looks okay. Maybe it's only a certain production run when the defective parts were fitted, a bit like the dud MHEV starter generators.
