S or SE order
Advice please.

New 2026 Defenderโ€ฆ

If I ordered an S model with the following options
Black pack
Air suspension
Comfort and conscience
Black roof

Can anyone find anything I would be missing from a SE X Dynamic?

Both are hard tops

Thanks
James

Hi! I have ordered an S hardtop the only thing I would of liked was the gloss black door mouldings and wheel arches, apart from that the S is perfect for me ๐Ÿ‘

Make sure your base spec has stuff that is uneconomical to add or configure at a later date. I would insist on having Matrix sectional auto dipping lights. A fridge may be important to you. Air suspension and maybe roof rails. Nearly everything else can be added by specialists at a fraction of the cost LR dealers charge. So do not buy side steps, spare wheel cover, roof rack, side box or ladder from LR dealer.
Oh and head up display must be factory installed as well should you want it but the dash display in front of the driver is so configurable, it is not really worth having in Defender.

The "S" seems to have everything needed.

Drive both (coil springs and air suspension) before you drop nearly ยฃ2,000 on air suspension. For me the coil springs were fine, l actually prefer the ride on the coils.

lf you plan on more extreme off road adventures then yes it wouldn't be a bad thing. Although there have been some issues with clunking from your the locking rear differential.

An oil change generally cures it.

In the US, the Meridian stereo is standard on the S, and the Meridian Surround is standard on the SE.

I believe in the UK, the Meridian is optional on the S and the Meridian Surround comes standard on the HSE.

I'd upgrade to at least the Meridian stereo on the S if it is optional. I've been in a Defender with the base sound system ant it is truly awful. Only good for listening to the news or podcasts. If you care about music even a little bit, upgrade to the Meridian if available. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ ๐ƒ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ ๐’ ๐๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ (Pangea Green over Acorn/Lunar)

The Clearsight rear view mirror on my hardtop is handy, especially with the 3rd jump seat.

The Meridian upgrade is part of the comfort and connivance pack which is handy

I added the blind spot monitoring to my MY 2024 110 S. Got used to it from my previous car, when backing out from tight spaces. I also found the fog lights useful. Also (personal preference) leather steering wheel (only 45โ‚ฌ). Not sure what the 26MY S has as standard.

Couple of things I really found useful, heated windscreen and rear view mirror ( despite not being very accurate at close distance, half of the car filling is not seenโ€ฆ )
The fridge is uselessโ€ฆ save the cashโ€ฆ I keep 4 cans of beer for difficult times in thereโ€ฆ
Cooled seats, yes if you travel abroad in the summer. Not needed at all in the Uk. Or not worth for the few days of warmโ€ฆ
D250 and than get it mapped to d350 and save 4 grandโ€ฆ
Air suspension, they really make the car feel specialโ€ฆ I love the manual adjustmentโ€ฆ

I completely disagree that the refrigerator is useless. It's small, which makes sense given that a car is a small spaceโ€”you wouldn't want to store your yogurts and two chickens in it, would you? But it works very well and is sufficient for storing four half-liter bottles of water, two liters in total. You can easily refill it because it cools very quickly with two levels, providing you with chilled water (more than just cold) on long road trips without much trouble. I'm 100% satisfied with having it, and I definitely recommend it.โ€ฆno doubt!!
However, I agree about the air suspension; it's essential!! Defender 110 SE I6 D250 23MY

It depends on your needs and budget but in the UK the sweet spot in the model range is the HSE X-Dynamic with the D250 engine. Lower specs lose out on essential standard equipment while a D350 engine costs many thousands more and a standard X costs many extra thousands extra again for little equipment or trim gain in reality.
Personally if the budget only allowed S or SE, the SE would win. Get the basic model right and avoid adding expensive extras that can fe fitted later, if required, either DIY or by specialists for a fraction of LR dealer prices.
One thing I forgot to factory order, but only if you appreciate the convenience, is the electrically deployable towbar. There are cheaper alternatives but thereโ€™s something about the deployable that is so satisfying and used with the air suspension itโ€™s magic.
