Scotland 2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Corris Grey
RANGE ROVER
Hi guys having sold my second and third vehicles a month or so ago I now have the itch for something else. Looking at FFRR and also RR sport's. The ones I have been looking at are post 2017 and high mileage 150 000ish . They are 3.0 diesels. Any thoughts on high mileage? Man math from running transits for work Alistair id rather buy one over 150,000 than with 100.000 as most issues should be resolved? Are the crankshaft issues still lingering in 2017 or was it the 3.0 is a whole? Tia

From my experience the 3 ltr is under powered in a full fat. I’ve nev r owned one, but driven a friends. I did have a disc4 sdv6, for a few years, and always had that Censored doubt in the back of my head about the chocolate crank! They say if you get north of a 100k miles then the crank should be fine….. make of that what you want Laughing
The intake manifolds are another weak point, around the 120k - 150 miles. I had a 2018 sdv8 Rr sport for all of 8 months, hated everything about it……. Cramped, uncomfortable and bland….. then went 2020 l405 sdv8 ….. another short lived experiment. No end of electrical issues on both, plus regen issues and oil services due every 2500 miles. Spent weeks at the dealers, who eventually said I’d brought the wrong car…… despite them selling it me Whistle oh and the depreciation Big Cry Big Cry but pleased to be shot off!!

Now back in a l322 tdv8 Mr. Green
The tdv8 is essentially the same engine as the sdv8 without all the ad blu crap….. yes more to tax, but less depreciation, more reliable and imo a much nice drive…. If I was going 2015 onwards it would have to be a petrol……. But I don’t really fancy the fuel economy!!
Just my experience, and man maths ….

I have one of the last l322 4.4’s. I’ve done 40,000 miles in 4 years, now on 100,000 and apart from routine maintenance and a couple of bits that have worn out it’s been absolutely fine.

If you can afford the road fund license and aren’t too bothered about ulez, get the 4.4.

If I decide to change up to a 405 I’ll be going for a petrol and probably the 5.0 SC.
