All oils changed....
....and it's better.

Changed all the oils (except for the engine as the dealer did that) on my new to me 2014 Defender

The transmission is quieter and the backlash noises are much reduced when you don't get the gear shift perfectly right.
The gear shift is nicer and the transfer box is easier to use. Not that l've really used it except to reverse up a couple of very steep drives.

The transfer box had 1.6 litres of oil in it. The gearbox had the correct amount in it. The front differential was fine except the oil was black.
The oil level in the rear differential was a bit low, 1.5 litres came out.

The swivels l couldn't tell so just put a sachet of swivel grease in each. The swivel balls aren't leaking at all...it's a miracle!

The mileage is 49,000 so none of these were due a change except the swivels.
But it was definitely worth doing.

l recommend anyone buying a Defender like this, unless it has evidence of the oils being changed recently, to do a complete oil change.

l know l've mentioned this already on another thread but,
If you buy one of those pressure type oil pumps (mine cost under £30) it makes the job so easy, it's (almost) a pleasure to do it.

I agree, thing is, unless you know the oils are as they should be or checked, there could be a mere half litre left for all you could know and the gearbox go bang as an example.

There are some service intervals that seem way to long to me as well. ____\We|Will|Win/___

Quite common as grease from the swivels go past the seals and mix in the diff gear oil. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
